Written from Velosius shelf-to-checkout programmes — inventory in one system, storefront in another, and the API merchandising can run without a ticket. Niran Fernando reviewed the account-boundary and identity notes.
The RFP says “new commerce platform.” The warehouse says inventory is already in the ERP. The storefront is already live. Promotions still need a ticket to engineering. That is not a rebuild. That is ecommerce ERP integration — the job a custom software agency should be willing to take without selling you a greenfield stack.
What to connect before you replace anything
- SKU and price as a single catalogue the merchandiser can edit.
- Stock that the storefront can trust during a peak — not a nightly CSV.
- Orders that finance can close without a reconciliation spreadsheet.
Shopify ERP integration, Magento ERP integration, or a custom storefront all fail the same way: two sources of truth. We put the catalogue in your cloud account, identity on your IdP, and an API the operator can run. Custom web app development sits on top only where the packaged tool cannot express the promotion or the bundle.
When to buy, when to build
If the ERP already has a certified connector that covers 80 percent of the flow, buy it and wrap the exceptions. If every peak still needs a developer, you need a thin custom layer — not a second ERP. Best custom software development companies will say that out loud. The ones that will not are selling a rewrite.
A 90-day path merchandising can own
- Weeks 1–2 — map SKU, price, stock, and order objects; name a business owner.
- Weeks 3–6 — live read-path: storefront reads the catalogue from your account.
- Weeks 7–10 — write-path for promotions and stock; monitoring and a rollback.
- Weeks 11–12 — handover: who changes a price at 7am UK time without paging us.
If you are briefing ecommerce ERP integration this quarter, send the two systems, the peak you cannot miss, and who owns the catalogue today. We will tell you whether to connect, wrap, or stop.
